The Drought Sandstorm Cap
I've tried couple of times but so far have failed in capping Sandstorm from The Drought in Rilohn Refuge Mission.
Anyone know who to cap this elite (or is it even possible)? |

easy, kill drought, leave droughtlings. cap. kill droughtlings. the mission ends when the drought and (only his 2 personal ones) his droughtlings are dead, the other guys further away do not matter.

It is possible. If I remember correctly, I believe you have to kill the Drought first, cap the skill, and then kill the Droughtlings. If you do it the other way around and wait to take out the Drought last, the mission will end before you get a chance to cap it.
If you go through that mission, I would definitely recommend bringing along an Earth Ele. That is what I was when I went through it with my Ele. I mainly provided support for my Heroes and Henchies (since the whole Earth Ele -Earth based monster thing..ya know). I don't remember the exact build but I believe I went E/Me and it had stuff like Ward Against Elements, Obsidan Flesh, Sliver Armor, Mantra of Earth, etc. in it. - Aldoros of Faydark Last edited by c_ras; Mar 15, 2007 at 06:59 PM // 18:59.. |

What lennymon said. Its tricky, but possible. I was able to cap miliseconds before the cutscene began.

Thanks for the input
One more thing, Is it better to shut off the pumps? or just go for the Drought? |

I'd also recommend bringing a Ranger (whether it be a guildie or a Hero like Jin or Margrid) and have Winter and/or something like Concussion Shot or Broad Head Arrow. Trust me...it helps out. If you go that way, instead of brining Mantra of Earth on the Ele, just bring Mantra of Frost. Last edited by c_ras; Mar 15, 2007 at 07:39 PM // 19:39.. |

the easiest way to do this mission is to bring winter. it completely negates the earth damage bonus and makes the bonus just as easy as the mission. (Not doing the bonus, that is, shutting off the valves gets rid of the environmental effect completely if u shut off all 5) If you wanna make it even easier bring a necro with spinal shivers/shivers of dread(both interrupt whenever foe takes cold damage) and an ele or 2 and the drought will not be a problem. You can also bring greater conflag and completely shut down the drought. A ranger with Broad Head Arrow and interrupts also works well. Also switch urslef and ur heroes to secondary mesmers if you can and bring mantra of frost.
Just be happy you read this here instead of doing what I did and cap sandstorm from the boss in poisoned outcrops... he sucks.... EDIT: C Ras Beat me to it..... but he didnt have spinal shivers and shivers of dread for interrupts Last edited by Soul of the Scythe; Mar 15, 2007 at 07:41 PM // 19:41.. |

The above suggestions assume you have factions for broad head arrow. If you don't just slap malestrom on your hero ele(it's a core skill) and echo it if you can. Pump up his water magic and you will have the Drought interrupted and taking damage and won't be able to do much about it. I did this and it was super easy to cap sandstorm before the droughtlings died.

I also had trouble with this on several chars but I finally figured it out by the time I got my ele there.
If the drought is still hugging the wall when you kill him then the cutscene will fire even if the 2 droughtlings that are with him are still alive. You must pull him away from the wall first then you should have time to cap before the other two droughtlings go down. If you have a broadhead/winter ranger (flat or long bow I think) with you then just target lock her on the drought while you and the party are still near the base of the stairs. She will run and fire and the drought will move away from the wall enough to let you cap. |

If you're main goal is the capping of sandstorm FAST, don't shut off the valves, bring broadhead arrow, winter and NO AOE DAMAGE, spike out the boss and cap immediately. If you want to cap it easiest, DO turn off the pumps, bring broadhead arrow, no winter, no AOE damage, spike out the boss and cap immediately.

heh, I got the cap sig activated about .5 seconds before one of the droughtlings killed my ele, so I was able to cap the skill while dead

BIggest thing that bares repeating: NO AOE DAMAGE.
Flag your heros around while you activate Cap Sig so they don't start killing the Droughtlings before you can cap. |

make your secondary elementalist, and bring Maelstrom...this will completely shut down the drought...also as a ranger bring broad head arrow. Kill everyone in the room except the drought and his two droughtlings....then target the drought FIRST....cast maelstrom and take him down and cap...the remaining two will go down easy after you cap your skill.

just capped it a few minutes ago......I was sf nuker, had dunky-healing, master of whisper-decoy, jin-interupter, my guildee was dervish with tahklora-prot, magrid-interupter.....
we killed all the other droughtlings and one of the droughts lackeys......then we set our interupters on the drought with master as a decoy....put lots of protection on the interupters and I kited a lot......finally had neither the drought nor his remaining lackey able to cast and we killed the drought....capped and about 15 seconds later his lackey was also dead.....we did not use winter nor turn off any pumps..... we did however, die a few times killing off the first lackey and finding the right combo on the prot/interupters before we finally cashed in. My ele is quite happy now as the other place to cap sandstorm is even worse! and yes we had only 7 people--my guildee likes to do things the hard way |

its easy, bring an assassin guildie, and they should be able to take him down in a few seconds.

Set your heros and yourself up with a couple of interrupt skills each. The Drought won't be able to get off his spells before he dies. Without disparaging rangers , I did masters on my first attempt without [wiki]Winter[/wiki], the extra damage was easily managed.

I done this mission before on my sin and knew it was hard as heck. Anyhow on my ele i got a team of noobish warriors since that was all i could find. we enetered and they didn;t understand that they couldn't kill the drought with gash etc. and decided to do it on hardest.
Luckily i went E/Me and whacked backfire and stuff on the sucker and he whent down like a sack of beans. then capped the mofo. kk right go left up and round (cut scene "whisperss you are too latess" or something as you near) then kill the groupt ot he left only. avoid the centre and kill the group by the switch. Either hit switch or don't. then go back near where you entered and aggro the drought from the side which you entered so you do not agroo the mob on the right of him. then when the drought is dead cap and kill the mob to the right to end it. |

don't know how you have been doing...
easiest way is... do the mission for masters and then do the mission again to cap it by shutting down the pumps... if you don't have enough patience...follow what everyone said above... P.S.: Broad Head Arrow SUCKZZZZZ |
